Trillian v0.7, MMJB 7.0

Heh, a factor of ten, but I’m happy with both.

Trillian manages Instant Messaging [IM] accounts from all four major players: AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Y!M. It does it all through an … interesting interface. There is a learning curve, but I’m very happy with the software, and the upgrade from v0.635 to 0.70 has made me very happy. 🙂

MusicMatch JukeBox has been a program I’ve long used for ripping, managing, and playing MP3’s. The thing I like best about it is that you do it all with one program. The best part of the newest version? Volume leveling on already-ripped MP3’s. No more pulling the player up to the front to just change the sound levels because the track switched. If it would output my playlist to a .txt or .xml file that I could up to IJSM, now that would be really cool. But I’ve made the request.

Just thought I’d pass some good software choices out there for you.

  1. I downloaded the DFX 5.3 plug in the other day. Most of the eq stuff plain sucks. THis one is really good. It brightens up the sound and removes alot of the MP3 encoding poo left behind.

We interface with the Musicmatch people here at work. I’ll mention the playlist to them.

  2. The only problem with MusicMatch is it incorporates the free Xing codec for MP3 compression, which is one of the lossiest formats there is. I would never use MusicMatch to make MP3’s that I cared about being good, archival quality.

  3. Yeah, props to Trillian. I use it for ICQ now, and even though I don’t use any other instant messaging program, I’m going to stick with it.

I still use BersIRC for IRC, though. Just like it better. 🙂

  4. I gave MM a shot a while ago, but still prefer Winamp. Version 3 is in Beta right now and they’ve added some great new features that v2 lacked.

Trillian on the other hand is a work of genius. Now that v0.7 has file transfers, my life feels complete.
