Link Pre-fetching

I got bored and decided to follow a couple links on the Mozilla Web site.

I found the Pre-fetching FAQ.

I’m sitting here and trying to think: “What use could a personal site have for something like this?”

Got ideas? I’m mulling it myself, but my brain is pooped from work. Something’s sitting in the back of my head … but just what, I’m not sure.

  1. You take this feature and combine it with Sean’s post regarding TiVo to produce a truely scarey scenario.

"Where do you want to go today?" indeed!

  2. According to Webalizer, I’ve had 100 hits on the siliconchef.com ‘Hot Animal Sex’ video in 2 days. Perhaps I should just preload that with the assumption everybody’s downloading it.

  3. Now that’s a good idea, Brian. 🙂

I guess one idea would be to pre-load each of the main sites on a page; for entry-based sites, pre-load the previous and next entries in case someone’s paging through. [Wouldn’t that be nice to do for someone, to speed their reading time on your site? I think so.]

Of course, since Webalizer’s been mentioned … I wonder if the hits are going to goof up your stats a bit.
