A Conversation With Mom

“Well, a funny thing happened yesterday.”

“Yeah, Darin called, and when he asked me when I was coming back to Youth, I told him that I might not be.”

“Oh. And what did he say?”

“We talked about it for a while, and he understood.”

“That’s good. The megachurch thing scares me.”

“It scares me, too, but it might be good for you.” We then talked about who was at Asbury, etc.; Mom didn’t recognize any names, and neither did I.

I have always called Asbury UMC/Madison, AL, “Fort God UMC, Madison”. I’ve done so somewhat derisively.

I get the sinking sensation that I might be humbled yet again for words that I’ve said without fully appreciating their effect…

  1. I’m pretty sure God delights in letting us make bold pronouncements, then putting us in a situation where we have to eat those words one spiky letter at a time. I can be mildly smug about this right now because it’s been a while since I’ve had that happen to me. I’m sure it’ll strike again in the near future.
